I have big feet and a bigger heart. I love to love and I love to give. I’m a brownie-baking, apron-sewing, picture-taking plain-ole silly girl. I’m a little too emotional and a lot too busy. I love my friends and family and their never-ending patience with me. I have way too many creative ideas and not enough time to complete them all. I am gullible, addicted to carbs, and my handwriting looks like a 1st grader’s. My camera is my outlet, my safe haven, my friend. Pictures are my words.

Bookmark this page and check back often! This is the place where you can see my most recent work. I will post my latest session images and sneak-peeks, promotions, and personal pictures.

healthy train

I have 3 sessions to post on here and 4 more to edit. I have much more important things to be doing than writing a personal blog post-but I had to. I’m sure everyone in my daily life is tired of hearing me talking about it, so I had to get it out somewhere else.

Tonight, I ran the FURTHEST DISTANCE I HAVE EVER RUN IN MY ENTIRE LIFE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I’m not quite sure how I did it, and its nothing amazing compared to a marathon runner. But, for me, it’s one of my greatest accomplishments. For someone who started out in May of 2008 not even able to run the distance of more than 2 light poles lining the sidewalk-I have worked up to 5.5 miles! I meant to train and actually run in Jacksonville’s Gate River Run (15k) last year, and got close to this point-but way later in the game and then I quit. Not this year. I’m nearly to a 10k and that makes me want to jump for joy.

I was inspired earlier this year by one of my favorite photographers: Bobbi of Bobbie and Mike. She started posting “healthy train” posts and I was hooked-going to her blog often to check in and see her progress. This post really made me want to get moving.

And so I have. Here’s my track record:

picture-82
You can see I started out really well at the beginning of the year and tapered WAY off. I started again in the summer. In August I was running just over 2 miles at an 11:00 minute mile.

picture-79
In October I went from nearly 3 miles to 5 miles in just a few days AND decreased my time. I think Friday’s time was a 10:15 min mile pace.

picture-80
And tonight I ran 5.52 miles at a 9.34 minute mile pace. Big difference in a short amount of time. (btw that time stamp is lying. NO WAY did I run at 3 am)

To illustrate the point further:

healthytrain

I really can’t believe how far I’ve come. I’ve always ALWAYS struggled with my weight (what I felt to be ideal) and self-esteem. Lately, I’ve made it my goal to concentrate on being the healthiest I can be-and not just my appearance. I eat whole grains and try every day to get 5 servings of fruits and vegetables (and it is HARD) and no more soda (not even diet).

For the first time, I’m learning to love myself and what my body can do. It has made ALL the difference in SO many aspects of my life. I’m truly happy, for the first time in a very long time. :)

I know my writing is not very eloquent-but I hope this post inspires you to take even one step toward being a healthier person.

lesley kerr - oh katelyn, i am so overwhelmed by you. your beauty radiates, and i nearly cried as i read, "i'm learning to love myself". that is so vitally important, so easily overlooked. you inspire me in an abundance of ways. you are a remarkable lady. i'm so amazed by you!

Eric - Katelyn: You've inspired me with your photography for years now...and now you've inspired me to strap on the old iPod Nano, insert the Nike+ sensor into my new shoes, and get my butt back out there and start running again. When I last ran several months ago, I had run the furthest distance of my life at that time, too (only just over 1.5 miles). I've got a ways to go, but God knows that I need it.

nicole - So very, very, very proud of you! You look amazing (even though I always thought you were beautiful before these most recent photos) and it sounds like you FEEL amazing, too.

Heather - Way to go, Katelyn! It is amazing what exercising can do for our lives. I've just started stretching again and taking over the dog walking at night; and it's improved my mood overall! High fives for taking some time for yourself! You're such a busy bee that you really need some of that time. Kudos!

Michael Downey - Your progress is very inspiring - hopefully it is to yourself, too. I can say that going to work every day around a bunch of MD's and public health people has totally changed my awareness of every my action or inaction. (I have a long way to go still, but I still recommend the African diet/lifestyle to anyone wanting to get healthy!)

Carrie - I wanna get on the healthy train and learn how to run! Again I agree with the other comments. I have always thought you looked beautiful, but I am glad that you finally see it!

jasfitz - Yours is such a familiar starting point. I have been struggling with the same thing for quite some time, and recently started running as well. Sometimes it's awfully hard to stick with. This is such an inspiration and a wonderful jolt of reminding myself what I am working towards. You look wonderful, and more importantly, happy. Learning to love onesself is no small shakes. Thank you for sharing this!

michelle - katelyn you look soooo amazing!

Patty Vonfeldt-McConnell - Katelyn, I am so proud of you in so many ways. You are the light of my life and you have the willpower, drive, courage and personality to pursue all your dreams. Bringing you into this world has not been just a blessing to me but to everyone that crosses your path. Thank-you for being you. Love Mom

JA - Great work, Ms. Katelyn! You actually look so much younger in your most recent pic. Amazing. :) Thank you.

v. - When I started running two years ago, I couldn't do it for more than two minutes. Now I'm less than four weeks away from my first marathon. Keep going! Livestrong. Real athletes run, others just play games. ;)

zdenek - All beauty is in your smile!!! bytheway you've done amazing job
